MAKE-UP MUSIC LESSONS

"MAKE-UP MUSIC LESSONS"
From An Economist's Point of View
by: Vicky Barham

I found some great article about make-up missed music lessons.
How, why, and when a music teacher and parents should act
toward the missed music lesson.
This is how the music teacher supposed to be appreciated.

Music school and music studio policies are important.
As far as I want to apply this and make piano lesson as an important priority,
the fact is it will always take a backseat to school and other tuition subject classes.

whether it's going to work in your studio or not,
it depends on the culture and how the community in the area,
and also how well you explain it to the parents.

Here's the article from Vicky Braham.
She teaches economics at her local university, and is the parent of music students.
She explains, from the business perspective,
why music teachers should not be under any obligation to find another spot
during the week or to refund for missed lessons.

I'm a parent of children enrolled in Suzuki music lessons. I'd like to explain to other parents why I feel - quite strongly, actually - that it is unreasonable of we parents to expect our teachers to make up lessons we miss, even if I know as well as they do just how expensive lessons are, and, equally importantly, how important that weekly contact is with the teacher to keeping practicing ticking along smoothly. I think that it is natural for we parents to share the point of view that students should have their missed lessons rescheduled, but if we were to 'walk a mile' in our teachers' shoes, we might change our minds about what it is reasonable for us to expect of our teachers.

Like many parents, I pay in advance for lessons each term. In my mind, what this means is that I have reserved a regular spot in the busy schedules of my sons' teachers. I understand - fully - that if I can't make it to the lesson one week (perhaps my son is sick, or we are away on holiday, or there is some other major event at school) then we will pay for the lesson, but that my teacher is under no obligation to find another spot for me that week, or to refund me for the untaught lesson. And this is the way it should be.

"911 SCALES" Artikel Staccato April 2013

"911 SCALES"
oleh: Jelia Megawati Heru
Artikel Staccato (April 2013)

Bagaimana sebaiknya kita mempelajari tangganada?

THE BIG “W-H-Y” IN LEARNING SCALES

Scales is so boring, mathematic, and non-related to the music. Ibarat menyanyikan lagu “Happy Birthday in C major” tapi pemain musiknya memainkannya pada tangganada G major. "Wah, wah... kok fals ya? Katanya aliran Jazz? Nah lho... Makanya wajib baca nih!"

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS: What does it mean?

"SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS":
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

As every child knows, if you say the word loudly enough, you'll always sound precocious.
Few neologisms have become so ingrained in the language and elicit such affection.

It was introduced into the Mary Poppins story by American composers Robert and Richard Sherman when they adapted the PL Travers book for the big screen.

In the 1964 musical film, starring Julie Andrews, the nanny with magical powers wins an unorthodox race - on merry-go-round horses - and is surrounded by reporters who say she must be lost for words.

"It's something to say when you don't know what to say,"
says one of the two children, Jane.

So in the film, the word has no meaning,
although it acts as a powerful keepsake from the children's magical adventure.

"The Married Life" (OST. Pixar's UP)

THE MARRIED LIFE (OST. Pixar's Up)
THE MOST HEARTWARMING FOUR MINUTES SCENE

"The Married Life" is undoubtedly one of the most powerful scenes in the movie Pixar's UP. These are real life issues that are being addressed in this film. They tug at your heartstrings and in the same instance this is very much a film that can be appreciated by all ages.

It's among the most memorable -- and moving -- sequences in Pixar's new animated movie "Up": a four-minute, dialogue-free montage early in the film that traces the entire relationship between Carl Fredricksen and his wife, Ellie

In encapsulating the couple's life together, the flashback sequence -- which Times film critic Kenneth Turan called "a small gem that will stay with you for a lifetime" -- includes a few issues rarely raised in a movie aimed at families, including a miscarriage, the failing health of the elderly, even death and bereavement.

Watch out to not see it in 3D! TOTALLY ruined the 3D effect, as you will suddenly have tears trapped in TWO sets of glasses. That montage alone is one of the most heartwarming scenes ever made and because of it, this movies deserves not just best animated film, but best picture, best original screenplay, best original score. That element really made it hit, how quickly life passes by.

MOTIVATION to PRACTICE

MOTIVATION TO PRACTICE

“If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not you’ll find an excuse.”

“I am too busy; my schedule doesn't allow time for me to practice.”

I know that some of my students do have pretty crazy schedules, but I wonder if our fast-paced culture has conditioned kids to think that they’re too busy to do things that they really could fit into their day if it was important enough… In going above and beyond the call as a teacher to keep piano lessons fun and engaging, I wonder if we sometimes forget to tell students the reality:
  • Sometimes daily practice will be hard.
  • Sometimes you will fall short of what you want to achieve.
  • Sometimes practicing will not be fun.
  • Sometimes you will feel like quitting.
  • Sometimes you will wonder why you are learning to play the piano.
This is normal. It’s okay to feel these things. But you must press on.
You must be diligent to practice every day.
You must put your whole heart into doing the best you can.
Because it will be worth it. It is worth it!

Is your student practicing enough?
See this Table of Practice Times
1 x 60-minute Practice per Week = 2 Months Progress in 12 Months
1 x 30-minute Practice per Day = 6 Months Progress in 12 Months
1 x 45-minute Practice per Day = 12 Months Progress in 12 Months
1 x 60-minute Practice per Day = 15 Months Progress in 12 Months
1 x 90-minute Practice per Day = 24 Months Progress in 12 Months
2 Hours Practice per Day = 36 Months Progress in 12 Months

"10 IDE KREATIF KELAS MUSIK" - Artikel Staccato Maret 2013

10 IDE KREATIF KELAS MUSIK
Artikel Majalah STACCATO (Maret 2013)

Not anymore!
Spice up your music lesson with these fresh creative ideas!

1. FLASH CARDS
